PAN surveyed 191 patient and caregiver partners about their experiences in governance and oversight roles. Many respondents bring strong experience from research, health, nonprofit, and government settings, but support and onboarding were uneven.
The report highlights that governance works best when roles are clear, people are accountable, and patient voices are respected. It also raises concerns about tokenism, weak training for non-patient members, and confusion between governance and day-to-day operations; in response, PAN plans to offer workshops and practical resources in 2026 so partners can participate more fully and with more confidence.
